All the flavor of a pecan pie but in an easier to make format that can feed a crowd!

These Pecan Pie Bars are a real treat and they are super easy to make. Have a craving for pecan pie but don’t want to go through the hassle of making the pie crust and the filling? This recipe is for you. And, because it fills up an entire 13″ x 9″ baking tray, it makes quite a bit more than your average pie. You probably already have all of the ingredients in your pantry, so there’s really nothing stopping you from trying this one!

About the Crust

The hardest part of this recipe is definitely making the crust – just like it is with making a pie. But, because of the way this crust is form, it’s much less finicky. As long as you get the dough blended decently, all you have to do is press it into the pan and you’re good to go. Much easier than rolling out a perfect circle, moving it into a dish, crimping the edges, etc. A hand held pastry blender really work great for this, but you could use a food processor with short pulses. Of course, two forks or even your fingers work fine in a pinch.

Finish it Off

For the topping, it’s best to keep it pretty traditional to get that pecan pie flavor. While Grandma’s recipe didn’t call for it, I did add a bit of vanilla extract and a pinch of sugar, just to heighten the flavors. If you are making these for adults, a splash a bourbon could be really good, too. The bars are great on their own, but if you served them with a big spoon of whipped cream or a scoop of ice cream, I don’t think anyone would be mad.

  • Preheat Oven to 350º + Prep Pan 

    Preheat the oven to 350º and prep a 13" x 9" pan with a light coating of cooking spray. Set aside.

  • Make Crust 

    In a large bowl, add the flour, brown sugar and cold butter. With a pastry blender, two forks or your finger tips, work the butter into the flour and sugar until it resembles fine sand and you have no chunks of butter larger than the size of a pea.

  • Press Crust Into Baking Dish 

    Dump the crumbled mixture into the prepared baking dish and press down into one, compact, even layer. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.

  • Make Pie Topping 

    While the crust is baking, make the topping. In a medium bowl add the pecans, milk, eggs, vanilla and salt. Stir to combine, mixing well so that the eggs are evenly distributed.

  • Pour Over Crust 

    Once the crust has baked for 10 minutes, take it out of the oven and pour the topping over top. Spread it out so that it is in one even layer.

  • Bake for 25 Minutes 

    Pop the tray bake into the oven and finish baking for about 25 minutes or until the topping is fully set. Allow to cool in the tray for about 10 minutes and then slice and eat!
