I have no recollection of this Chocolate Cherry Pie growing up and the recipe card is in such nice condition, it makes me really wonder if Grandma ever made it. But, it was in the recipe box and really looked unique so I figured I’d give it a try. I’m glad I did, it was really easy to make and tasted great. The crust is a very simple “press in” type crust and the filling is a simple pudding type full of chocolate and cherries and couldn’t be easier to make.
For the crust, it has the usual ingredients of flour, sugar, salt and butter but surprisingly, no liquid. This makes for a very crumbly crust that, instead of rolling out, you simply press into the pie baking dish and bake. A lot less stress and fuss! The crust isn’t quite as pretty as a final result, but it’s still very flakey and flavorful!
The filling of the pie couldn’t be any easier. You basically make a chocolate pudding by melting chocolate chips with condensed milk and then add cherries and a little splash of almond extract. The result is the perfect mixture of textures and flavors. Top it all with a big dollop of whipped cream and you’re in pie heaven.
With the simple crust and easy filling, this is a great recipe if you wanna make your first pie. It’s also fun and tasty if you’ve made pies for years. I hope you give it a try – and if you do, please let me know what you think in the comments or share a picture of your end result with me on Instagram (@bdhbakes)!
