Curried Fruit

A warm and spicy side dish that's a perfect blend of sweet and savory.

Serves: 4-6

Easy

This recipe is a like a baked version of a fruit cocktail but with the added bonus of curry spices!

Curried Fruit is a very unique, classic Grandma Jackie recipe. It’s sweet and savory and just a little bit spicy. It comes together rather quickly and couldn’t be easier to make. The ingredients for this side dish are all pantry staples so it should be easy to pull together whenever you get the craving. And after having it once, you WILL crave it again!

The main fruit ingredients are all from cans (peaches, pears and pineapples) or a jar in the case of the Maraschino Cherries. I grabbed sliced peaches and pears and for the pineapple I chose to use the chunks. Also important to make sure you stem the cherries. Throw all the fruit in a colander and allow them to dry very thoroughly before proceeding with the recipe.

The Curried Fruit sauce is super easy to make as well. Just melt the butter over medium low heat which shouldn’t take long. Then add the brown sugar and curry powder and stir until it’s all combined. The curry powder really makes the dish, so be sure to use good stuff. And because curry powders can really be so different from brand to brand, be sure to taste test it and adjust as you go. You might need more or less depending on the brand you’re using and your preference.
