Grandma’s Party Mix Recipe

The essential snack for any holiday party.

2 hours, 10 minutes

Serves: A lot

Easy

My grandma's version of the classic party mix recipe.

Nothing says the holidays more than this recipe for Grandma’s Party Mix! This is recipe is the classic version and WAY better than the one on the box of Rice Chex. One bite always takes me instantly to family Christmases and sitting around my Grandma’s table playing games and laughing for hours.

All in all, this party mix recipe is really easy – if you have a big enough bowl! My mom always makes this in a big roster and I’m pretty sure Grandma did as well. I didn’t have a roster so I tried making it in two separate stock pots. That kinda worked – but not as well. This most important thing though, is STIRRING! No matter what size pot(s) you cook the mix in, you need to really give it a good stir. Get the spoon to the very bottom and scoop up. You’ll wanna be gentle so you don’t crush all the cereal, but as it cooks, the season drips down so you really gotta mix it up to get a good, even flavor.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 225º
  • Melt butter & add spices

On the stovetop, melt the butter in a medium saucepan. Once melted add the Worcestershire Sauce and dry seasonings.

  • Combine mix ingredients

In as large of a bowl as you have (a big roasting pan is the best) combine the Cheerios, Corn Chex, Rice Chex, Pretzels and nuts. You can do this while the butter is melting in step 2.

  • Pour and mix

Pour the butter and seasonings mixture over the mix ingredients in the large bowl or roaster and MIX WELL but gently.

  • Bake

Bake the whole bunch in the oven for 2 hours thoroughly stirring every 30 minutes.
